LIFELONG LEARNING

Unlocking the potential of people
Developing people and equipping them with skills is at the heart of Amman Valley Enterprise.
Communities flourish when the potential of its people is encouraged to grow. It gives them the opportunity of self-determination and allows them to take advantage of choices.
Lifelong Learning was the priority when AVE was first established.
Amman Valley Enterprise has on average 40 different courses, both vocational and leisure, running from Tairgwaith and Ammanford. They are attended by an average of 400- 500 students every year and most of the courses lead to a recognised qualification.
The range of courses continues to expand and remains responsive to the needs of students and local businesses. AVE works in close partnership with all the post 16 year old providers of education and training.
Delivery of services within the local setting is essential - a survey showed that over 90% of students lived within the surrounding area.
Friendly, comfortable and non-threatening environments encourage students of whatever age and ability to give of their best. Particular consideration is also given to those with childcare concerns; people working part time or shift work; those with transport or access problems and on a limited income. Subsidised meals and snacks are available at our spacious and comfortable café based at our Tairgwaith centre.
Enrolling on an AVE course has been for many the first step on the road back into learning, leading to greater self-confidence, a higher skills level and the possibility of returning to work.
New Learning Network
Through a local partnership, a linked network of Local Action Centres have been established across the County Borough to deliver advice, information and learning opportunities to 6000 people. The project will strengthen existing links, create new ones and it can help with costs towards dependant care, transport and courses.
Community University of the Valleys
As part of our long-standing involvement with the CUV Partnership, we can now offer a part-time degree programme in our community, as well as a variety of Open Access courses and Community Development training.
Carmarthenshire Learning Network
In partnership with the Carmarthenshire Learning Network (CLN) we have recently established the Amman Valley Community Learning Forum. The aim of the CLN is to offer 150 new short courses in community locations for people not currently taking part in education and training opportunities in the area. The community focus of the project will mean that courses can be offered in local and familiar settings, which is a crucial element when encouraging reluctant learners to take part.
